AFN Boosts Peace Efforts in North Central, Deploys More Assets Under Operation Whirl Stroke

In a renewed push to strengthen security and mobility in the North Central region, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has delivered additional combat and mobility assets to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Makurdi, Benue State.

The consignment, received on Thursday, 19 June 2025, includes Troop-Carrying Vehicles (TCVs), gun trucks, personal protective equipment, and over 100 motorcycles. It was delivered under the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, as part of a broader effort to improve troop agility, operational reach, and overall mission effectiveness in confronting asymmetric threats.

Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, expressed appreciation for the delivery, noting that it reflects the Defence Headquarters’ commitment to operational synergy among the military and other security agencies. He highlighted that the gun trucks deployed by the CDS would bolster troop mobility and protection, while the motorcycles provided by the COAS are tailored for rapid deployment across rugged terrain.

General Gara also acknowledged the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for deploying additional air platforms to the region. According to him, the expanded aerial support has significantly enhanced surveillance, reconnaissance, and close air operations—further strengthening coordination between air and ground forces.

He affirmed that the newly delivered assets would be swiftly integrated into ongoing clearance and stabilization missions, aimed at improving situational awareness, extending operational capabilities, and raising troop morale.

The deployment is viewed as a strategic enhancement of military capacity and a clear demonstration of the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and ensuring lasting security across the North Central region.
