BREAKING: WTO ANNOUNCES NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA AS ITS DG
The World Trade Organisation has announced Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its new Director-General (DG).
Her appointment was announced on Monday by the Geneva-based organisation.
"BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.
Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.
"#WTODG," the WTO announced in a statement via its official Twitter handle.
Recall that on February 5, Eons Intelligence reported that the United States of America endorsed the former Nigeria's Finance Minister following the withdrawal of South Korean's candidate, Yoo Myung-hee, to head the WTO.
“I look forward to finalising the process,” Okonjo-Iweala said on February 6 after securing the endorsement from the President Biden administration.
