BUHARI APPROVES PLANTING OF 26 MILLION TREES
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) can begin planting 26 million trees in some parts of the country.
The Presidency made this known in a statement on Sunday, June 14 via its verified Twitter handle.
The statement said that Buhari's decision is in fulfillment of the President's commitment at the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
"President @MBuhari has given approval to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall @Naggwnigeria1 to commence the planting of 26 million trees, in fulfillment of the President's commitment at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Great Green Wall Programme is a Pan-African Initiative conceived to address land degradation & desertification, & boost food security. This tree-planting campaign will be implemented in 8 States across Northern Nigeria: Borno, Jigawa,Katsina, Sokoto, Yobe,Kebbi, Kano,Zamfara," the statement read.
The Agency had in April announced its plans to grow 26 million trees following the pledge of the President as part of his efforts to reduce the impact of climatic factors in the country.
