Chikakore Under Siege: About 30 Bandits Attack Community, Abduct Five, Injure One

No fewer than 30 armed bandits stormed the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Abuja, on Monday morning, abducting five residents, including an entire family.

The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the Health Centre extension area, forcefully entering the homes of their victims. Among those kidnapped were a man identified as Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, their son, and a visitor. Another resident was also taken, bringing the total number of abductees to five.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers inflicted injuries on a woman by striking her head with a gun butt, causing severe bleeding. She was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

“The police operatives from Byzahin division arrived later, but by then, the assailants had fled the scene,” a source disclosed.

In response to the attack, the police and community leaders have scheduled a meeting on Monday to discuss security measures and preventive strategies.

A resident lamented the delayed police response, noting that officers arrived an hour and a half after the gunmen had escaped.

"The bandits have resumed attacks in Chikakore. We urgently need a police division in this community. We have already secured land and a five-bedroom apartment to accommodate the police, but there has been no deployment yet," she stated.

Sunday's attack comes just weeks after a similar security breach in early January, when bandits fleeing from Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State detonated explosives in the same Chikakore community, located about five kilometers from Kuchibuyi.

Residents have called for immediate intervention to curb the rising insecurity in the area.
