COVID-19: Benue’s Index Case moved to Isolation Centre in Abuja.

The Index Case of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Benue state has been Evacuated from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and moved to the Isolation Centre at the National Hospital, Abuja, for proper management of her case, and to curtail the spread of the virus in Benue.


This was made known by a Notice from the Federal Ministry of Health, Yesterday, April 2nd, 2020, which reads thus:


I write to convey the Honourable Minister of Health's approval for the immediate evacuation of Ma. Susan Okpe, a 62 years old Nigerian - British Citizen and the Index Case of COVID-19 in Benue State to the Isolation Centre at the National Hospital, Abuja.


This has become necessary so as to ensure proper management and in order to put to rest all controversies and panic surrounding her case as well as the need for absolute containment of the COVID-19 in Benue State.


Kindly Note that His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Benue State and the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi are facilitating her seamless movement to Abuja. It is however advised that the services of the relevant security Agencies be mobilised for effective implementation.
