COVID-19: GBAJABIAMILA SLAMS THE MINISTER OF HEALTH OVER IGNORANCE ON HARZARD ALLOWANCE

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, 9th April berated the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, for claiming ignorance of the hazard allowance status of health workers treating Coronavirus patients.

Meanwhile, The National Association of Resident Doctors had last week stated that Nigerian doctors were receiving N5, 000 a month as hazard allowance.

Report from Doctors at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital isolation centre indicates that they were being owed over N30m in allowances.

Members of Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 has been invited by the National Assembly to address some issues.

Gbajabiamila asked the minister if the medical personnel handling coronavirus cases are paid any hazard allowance, to which he responded: “I am not aware of it.”

He added, “It is the standard job they do every day; it is the standard job.”

The Speaker, who seemed disappointed by Ehanire’s response, told the minister it is not enough to say he is not aware, and “you dropped the ball”.

After the Gbajabiamiala's meeting with the Health Minister, many Nigerians including the elites, have been calling on the minister to resign immediately.
