COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: POLICE KILLED TWO MEN OVER LOCKDOWN ORDER VIOLATION IN ONITSHA (VIDEO)
Two young men have been shot dead by the police in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Wednessday, 15th April, over violation of the lockdown order by the Federal Government.
Earlier, following rising cases of Coronavirus in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown order in some parts of the country.
The two young men, who were said to be playing football with their colleagues in a local pitch in the street, were accused by policemen for violating the stay at home order and social distancing advisory.
After the ugly incident, some eyewitnesses were interviewed to clear the air on the cause of the killing.
One of the eye witnesses who spoke in Igbo language, interpreted to English said:
“We are confused at what happened to our brother, after playing ball on the field. Six police men stopped and interrupted the two youths and started harassing them, while we were watching from afar. Then, one of the youths challenged them and the police man pulled the trigger and shot one of them at the back. The second tried to run for his life and the same police shot him twice and he was rushed to the hospital (multi care), where he died”
The angry and pained residents have cried out to the government of the state to take prompt action in prosecuting the offender and ensure such doesn’t happen again.
