COVID-19: NEW ARRIVAL OF SIXTY NINE STRANDED NIGERIANS FROM IVORY COAST

As the Federal Government continues it's efforts to rescue and evacuate stranded Nigerians in diaspora in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, another set of sixty nine (69) Nigerians have returned from Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire on 8th April 2020 through Seme border. The returnees were received at ECOWAS complex Seme by officials of Lagos State Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and were immediately taken away for the mandatory 14 days isolation and medical examination.

Meanwhile, investigation revealed that, three out of the 69 are not Nigerians but Ivorians, and were denied entry, as at the time of filing the report.

While we commend Government for the step taken, we advise that Government puts in place measures to ensure total quarantine. We recall that some sets of returnees from Ejigbo in Osun State violated the self isolation protocol, a development that has increased the risk of Community transmission of the VIRUS, it is hoped that the Government will improve security around the facility and ensure that the returnees observe the quarantine procedure.
