COVID-19 PANDEMIC IS WORSENING - WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the coronavirus pandemic situation is worsening around the globe.

WHO said it had recorded its highest daily infections, with COVID-19 now more rampant in the Americas.

And as mass protests for racial justice sweep across the United States and beyond, the health agency urged everyone to tread with caution and not be complacent.

According to the WHO, 403,000 fatalities have been recorded out of at least seven million infected since the novel coronavirus emerged in China last December.

After East Asia, Europe became the epicentre of the disease, but has now been overtaken by the Americas.

“Although the situation in Europe is improving, globally it is worsening,” WHO Secretary-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus told a virtual news conference in Geneva.

Tedros added that more than 100,000 cases have been reported in the past 10 days. He said more than 136,000 cases were reported yesterday, the most in a single day so far.
