Cybersecurity Boost: Police Trains 192 Officers on Forensic Intelligence as Three Suspects Arrested for Cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in partnership with Radio Tactics Group Limited, has completed a nationwide specialized training on the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS) to strengthen its fight against cybercrime.

The program, which ran from July 9 to August 15, 2025, trained 192 officers drawn from the 36 state commands, the Federal Capital Territory, and 10 specialized formations. The training focused on enhancing digital forensic capabilities, intelligence gathering, and advanced cyber-investigation techniques.

Experts from the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and Radio Tactics Group facilitated the sessions, equipping participants with practical skills in threat identification, communication and location data extraction from SIM cards, GPS devices, and satellite phones, biometric capture, and forensic hotlist management. According to the Force, the new skills will boost officers’ readiness in tackling cybercrime across the country.

Meanwhile, in a related development, operatives of the NPF-NCCC have arrested three suspects — Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke — in Abuja and Lagos over alleged involvement in cyberstalking, identity theft, and online fraud.

Investigations revealed that on July 18, 2025, the suspects hacked into a victim’s WhatsApp account, threatening to expose confidential information unless a ransom of N3 million was paid. Forensic tracking led to their arrest, recovery of the compromised account, and the uncovering of a wider organized cybercrime network, which is now under investigation.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing policing methods through digital innovations, continuous training, and international best practices to stay ahead of emerging cyber threats.
