“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police CP. Bala Ciroma has ordered that the Police officer be subjected to psychological and medical evaluation, preparatory to the commencement of disciplinary actions against him.

“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally state that the behaviour portrayed by the Policeman in the video does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force.

“While urging residents to remain calm, the Command wishes to reiterate its unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.”

On Saturday, November 21, a drunk policeman shot dead a young man named Olaoye Abayomi, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Abayomi was with his friend, Idris Adebayo, at Queens Court Hotel along Ado-Ikere Road when the team of drunk police officers attached to a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police arrived the scene with a vehicle carrying “PF 600 – WSH” number plate and started misbehaving under the influence of alcohol.

The policemen allegedly threatened to kill some of the guests and opened fire all of a sudden.

In the process, a stray bullet hit Abayomi, killing him instantly.

He said the erring policemen had been arrested and detained at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti.

Earlier in November, a man in uniform of the Nigerian army was spotted in a viral video battling with intoxication after consuming 'colorado'.

Following the ugly incidents, Nigeria's security agencies came under massive backlash for exhibiting such irresponsible and unprofessional acts.

All these are happening amid the ongoing nationwide fight against police brutality, extortion and extrajudicial killings.
