#ENDSARS: IGP WARNS POLICE PERSONNEL AGAINST USE OF FORCE ON PROTESTERS
Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has warned police officers not to use force against peaceful protesters.
Adamu's warning comes on the heels of several video footage on social media showing police officers brutalising and firing live rounds at peaceful protesters.
There has also been photos of police officers standing by while armed thugs attack peaceful attack protesters, as in the case of the protest disruption in Alausa on Thursday, October 15.
The Police Chief, in a statement late on Thursday, October 15, said citizens have the fundamental right of freedom of expression, assembly, and movement and these must always be upheld and protected by the police
He admonished protesters to continually conduct themselves and guide their ranks from being infiltrated by criminal elements.

“The Force leadership has heard the voice of the people clearly and is irrevocably committed to doing everything possible to address the observed ills, punish the offending officers, and enthrone a people-friendly police force,” the IGP said.
Recall that SARS was on Sunday, October 11, following nationwide protests against the extra-judicial killings, extortion, exploitation, and harassment of innocent and defenceless citizens from the group that have escalated over the past few years.
It was replaced with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit on Tuesday, October 13, but this has not stopped Nigerians from protesting.
The protesters have demanded that police personnel must stop the use of force against protesters, unconditional release of arrested citizens, and prosecution of officers culpable of extra-judicial killings.
