Enugu Police Foil Robbery Attempts, Arrest Suspects in Pre-Yuletide Operations

The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its operations to ensure a secure and crime-free yuletide, arresting two armed robbery suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, a snatched tricycle, and other items in separate operations.

On November 22, 2024, police operatives from the Abakpa Division, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, apprehended a suspect, Daniel Aniude, 29, during a robbery attempt at Abakpa-Nike, Enugu. One imitation pistol was recovered, and Aniude was subsequently arraigned and remanded. Similarly, on November 12, 2024, Nkanu East Division operatives arrested Uzor David, 25, after he shot a tricyclist in the hand and attempted to steal the vehicle. The locally made pistol used in the attack and the tricycle were recovered. The victim is receiving treatment, while David is set to face prosecution.

On December 10, 2024, police operatives from Emene Division, supported by the Neighbourhood Watch, thwarted an armed robbery attempt at Upper Rehab, Emene, recovering a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge abandoned by fleeing suspects. Earlier on December 2, 2024, at College Road, Abakpa-Nike, Abakpa Division officers disrupted another robbery attempt. The suspects fled, leaving behind a locally made pistol and two live cartridges.

In a separate operation on December 6, 2024, the Enugu Metro Area Command discovered a Beretta pistol concealed in a sack of cassava flakes at Abakpa Junction Bus Stop. Investigations are ongoing to identify those involved.


The Enugu State Police Command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining public safety during the festive season and urged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
