EXPECT MASS COVID-19 INFECTIONS IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS – PTF CHAIRMAN, BOSS MUSTAPHA WARNS NIGERIANS

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has warned Nigerians to expect mass covid-19 infections in the next two weeks.

Recall, on October 13, Eons Intelligence reported that the PTF Chairman warned that Nigerians should expect a second wave of the virus.

The PTF Chairman, who disclosed this at a PTF briefing, said Nigerians who arrived from abroad have failed to present themselves for the COVID-19 test they signed up to before arrival.

He revealed that statistics from the nation’s records showed that only one out of three passengers had shown up for the test.

“The PTF at the last briefing cautioned on the need to avoid complacency on account of the low number of infections published daily and the possibility of a second wave. That advice was premised on the fact that risk perception remains very low and sample collection has been on the decline,” Mustapha said.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), noted that the recent gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States as well as the #EndSARS nationwide protests would trigger the infections.

“The PTF is highlighting these issues repeatedly because we remain at risk of importation, having opened our airspace and massive spread as a result of the protests. The next week or two remain critical.

“The PTF similarly announced sanctions as a consequence of any infraction. Having observed serious non-compliance to the level of 65%, the need has arisen to activate the sanctions, including the suspension of the passports of such defaulting individuals for a period of six months minimum.”

Mustapha’s warning comes on the heels of reports that the Lagos State Government may impose another lockdown on residents if it experiences a surge in COVID-19 infections.

According to the NCDC, Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases as of November 4 is 63,173, with 69,646 recoveries and 1,151 deaths recorded.
