Explosion Hits Mosque in Maiduguri Market, Claims Lives
An explosion ripped through a mosque at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Wednesday, resulting in the death of several worshippers.
The incident occurred during prayers, triggering panic and confusion within the crowded market environment. Witnesses reported that the blast caused significant damage to parts of the mosque, killing some worshippers on the spot and injuring others.
Following the explosion, traders and residents fled the area in fear as smoke rose from the scene. Some bystanders attempted to help the injured before the arrival of emergency and security personnel.
Security operatives later secured the area to prevent further incidents and to enable initial investigations. Authorities have yet to release an official figure on the number of casualties as investigations continue.
