FLEEING BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ABANDONED 72 FAMILY MEMBERS

Seventy-two family members, which consists of 33 women and 39 children were said to have been abandoned by some Boko Haram and Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) fighters, who fled during a military offensive launched in Ngala town in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, May 15.

Enenche added that 11 terrorists surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in Adamawa on May 11.

The Major General also encouraged more fighters to drop arms. He said the de-radicalization, rehabilitation and reintegration programme for ex-fighters has been successful.

"So far, 280 clients have successfully undergone the programme and reintegrated into the society, 25 of this number were repatriated to the Niger Republic. Presently, 603 clients are due to pass out in June 2020," he said.

The Nigeria Army also warned the public that surviving terrorists are in desperate need of fighters and might woo young impressionable minds.

Therefore, parents, traditional rulers, community, opinion and religious leaders must warn their children and wards against succumbing to the lies of the terrorists.

"The military High Command is using this medium to request parents, traditional rulers, community, opinion and religious leaders to urge their wards and children not to succumb to inducements by the BHT/ISWAP for recruitment into their fold because the temporarily surviving terrorists are now in dire need of fighters."
