FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER DENIES GIVING CONDITIONS TO LIFT TWITTER BAN
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has denied giving conditions to lift the ban of twitter in the country.
The Minister, in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Ferdinand Nwonye, said the minister was quoted by some media platforms to have said that “Twitter’s operations in Nigeria will be restored only if the platform can be used responsibly”.
However, a statement titled ‘Clarification Of Comments By The Honourable Minister Of Foreign Affairs At His Meeting With Envoys’, described the news as fake, saying “The Honourable Minister has been quoted out of context.”
The minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, met with the envoys of the United States, United Kingdom, the European Union, the Republic of Ireland and Canada on Monday afternoon in Abuja over their recent comments on the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.
