Fresh Bandit Attack Claims 14 Lives in Riyom LGA
A recent bandit attack in Ri Do, a village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has left 14 people dead, with residents preparing for a mass burial to honor the victims.
The deceased, mostly Irigwe natives from Bassa LGA, were reportedly ambushed in the fatal attack. Linda Moses, a 32-year-old survivor, is currently receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the incident.
Sam Jugo, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday. He revealed that after learning about the incident, a member of the IDA executive team was sent to verify the situation.
“The report from our representative confirmed the loss of 14 lives in the attack. This is a heartbreaking tragedy for our community,” Jugo said. He urged residents to remain calm and appealed to security agencies to take immediate steps to apprehend the culprits and prevent future attacks.
“Our hearts are heavy with grief as we mourn our brothers and sisters. May their souls find peace, and may God bring comfort to their families and the entire Irigwe community,” Jugo added.
Musa Ashoms, Plateau State’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, also condemned the attack. He called on law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are caught and held accountable.
This latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges in Plateau State, with communities calling for stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.
