GOVERNOR WIKE SACKS PERMANENT SECRETARY FOR VIOLATING COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has sacked a permanent secretary in the State, Sunny Okere, for violating COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
The Governor made the disclosure in a statewide broadcast yesterday evening, July 8th, 2020.
The former Minister of Education revealed that the dismissed Permanent Secretary had the audacity to chase away officials of the State Ministry of Health who went to enforce the established guidelines on public burials at Oyigbo.
He said the Secretary’s dismissal would serve as a lesson to other lawless Government officials.
Also, the Governor unveiled a task force that would implement the wearing of face masks in the State, and impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 8pm to 6am on the Bonny Local Government Area and Onne Community in the Eleme Local Government Area with effect from July 10th, 2020.
Rivers is the 7th most infected State in Nigeria with a total of 1,205 cases.
Of the 1,205 cases, 370 are active and are on admission, 794 discharges have been made, and 41 deaths have been recorded.
