IGP Approves Creation of 2 New Area Commands, Upgrades 5 Divisions in Benue

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has approved the creation of two new Area Commands and the upgrade of five police stations to divisional status in Benue State, as part of efforts to strengthen internal security and improve policing in difficult terrains.

According to the Force Headquarters, the restructuring follows a comprehensive review of the security realities in the state, particularly in troubled local government areas where greater police presence and additional deployments are needed.

The newly created Area Commands are Daudu Area Command, which will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions; and Naka Area Command, which will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions.

In the same development, Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan Police Stations have been upgraded to full-fledged divisional headquarters to improve security response and enhance police visibility.

The IGP directed the Benue State Commissioner of Police and officers deployed to the new commands and divisions to demonstrate professionalism and renewed commitment in tackling insecurity. He also called on the government and people of Benue State to support the police, stressing that community collaboration remains vital for effective policing.

Egbetokun further directed Commissioners of Police in other states with similar security challenges to adopt practical, community-driven strategies to strengthen their operations, assuring them of full support and resources from Force Headquarters.
