IGP Reiterates Ban on Public Parade of Suspects, Affirms Commitment to Human Rights
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the ban on the public parade of criminal suspects, emphasizing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding fundamental human rights and aligning with global best practices in policing.
This directive, which had been previously communicated to all police commands and zones, aims to ensure that suspects are not publicly paraded before formal charges are filed in court. The IGP stressed that the policy reflects the force’s modernization efforts and aligns with international human rights standards that safeguard the dignity and rights of individuals throughout the judicial process.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to lawful operations and fostering a culture of respect for human rights among its officers. The IGP also urged the media to support this directive by adhering to ethical reporting practices, which are crucial in maintaining public trust and ensuring a fair justice system.
