Imo Police Foils Violent Attack by IPOB/ESN, Neutralize Suspected Terrorist, Recovers AK-47 Rifle and Ammunition
Operatives of the Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, achieved a significant success in the fight against violent crime in the state.
On October 29, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, officers from the Command’s Counter-Terrorism Unit successfully repelled an attack by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists during a routine patrol along the Owerri/Aba Road, near Owerri Airport.
The assailants, numbering about ten and traveling in two vehicles, launched a violent assault but were effectively countered by the unit in a display of valor. During the ensuing gun battle, one suspect was neutralized, while the others fled with gunshot wounds, abandoning their operational vehicle—an ash-colored Mercedes Jeep with Lagos State registration number AAA 101 GR.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded among the police operatives. Recovered from the deceased suspect were an AK-47 rifle, fifteen rounds of 9.62mm live ammunition, an IPOB/ESN flag, and the abandoned vehicle. Police have since launched an extensive search of the surrounding area to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The Commissioner of Police has urged the public, particularly medical practitioners, to report anyone seen with or receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or contact 0803 477 3600. The Command reiterates its commitment to public safety and assures citizens it will continue to address threats to peace in the state.
