Ukraine Suffers Massive Russian Missile Strike, Power Outages Across the Nation
A massive Russian missile and drone strike has devastated critical infrastructure across Ukraine, leaving vast areas without power amidst freezing temperatures. Strategic bombers and warplanes launched Iskander, Kalibr, and Kinzhal missiles, along with Iranian-made Shahed drones, targeting energy and military facilities, according to reports.
The capital, Kyiv, experienced severe power cuts, with underground metro services suspended as residents sought refuge in shelters. Energy Minister German Galushchenko denounced the assault, stating, “The enemy continues its terror. The power sector throughout Ukraine is under massive attack.” National power operator Ukrenergo warned that up to half of the country would face blackouts in subzero conditions.
Explosions were reported in regions from Ivano-Frankivsk to Kharkiv, including strikes on the Burshtyn Power Plant, an airbase in Chuguev, and Odesa port facilities. Four people were injured in Kharkiv, as air raid alarms echoed across the nation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes, describing them as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “peaceful plan to destroy everything.” He called for stronger international responses, warning that inaction emboldens further aggression.
