Nasir El-Rufai has filed a N1 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence.

In the suit, the former Kaduna State governor is challenging a search warrant issued on February 4 by a Chief Magistrate of the FCT Magistrate Court, which authorised security operatives to search and seize items from his home. Through his legal team led by Oluwole Iyamu, SAN, El-Rufai is asking the court to declare the warrant invalid, null and void, citing lack of particularity, drafting errors, ambiguity in execution, overbreadth, and absence of probable cause—arguing that it violated his constitutional right to privacy under Section 37.

He further urged the court to rule that any evidence obtained from the search is inadmissible in any proceedings against him, on the grounds that it was secured in breach of constitutional safeguards.

El-Rufai is also seeking an injunction restraining the ICPC and its agents from using or relying on any materials seized during the operation in any investigation or prosecution involving him.

In his claim for N1 billion in damages, he is demanding N300 million as compensatory damages for alleged psychological trauma and emotional distress; N400 million as exemplary damages to deter what he described as misconduct by law enforcement; and N300 million as aggravated damages for what he termed malicious and oppressive actions, including the procurement of a defective warrant.

He is additionally seeking N100 million to cover legal costs and related expenses.
