Aboard the flight was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, together with a number of other senior Nigerian government officials and members of the Organised Private Sector.
They were received at the Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay, by the Minister of Transportation of Jamaica and other top Jamaican government officials,
Nwonye stated that the trip is expected to deepen relations between the two countries in areas of tourism, education, economic activities and others.
The Jamaican High Commission in Nigeria had in November partnered Nigerians Travel Too for an inaugural ceremonial direct flight operation from Lagos to Jamaica this December.
Jamaica’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Esmond Reid, in a statement said “the direct flights are a historic and unique opportunity, as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, to reconnect with family and friends from Nigeria, Jamaica, the Caribbean and other parts of the world, in a world class tourist destination.”
They said the move was a reflection of the creative fusion of the Nigerian and Jamaican history and culture, which both partners have dubbed the Nai-Jamaica Project.
The Commission added that the first flight from Lagos on December 21 will return on December 28, 2020. A second rotation will take place from December 30 to January 6, 2021.
