Nigeria Police Busts Major Arms Dealer, Arrest 1,246 Suspects in Nationwide Crime Crackdown
In a sweeping crackdown on violent crime, the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has achieved notable milestones in criminal apprehensions and recovery of illicit weapons. The operations, which underscore the Force’s unwavering commitment to national security, have led to the arrest of 1,246 suspects and the recovery of over 3,000 rounds of various ammunition in October.
Among the accomplishments since October 1, 2024, the Force has detained 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 murder suspects, 63 suspects with prohibited firearms, 217 suspects for rape, and 167 cultists. Additionally, the police recovered 210 firearms, 3,172 rounds of ammunition of diverse calibres, 118 stolen vehicles, and rescued 64 kidnapping victims across Nigeria.
A significant breakthrough was made in Plateau State, where police operatives apprehended a major arms dealer, identified as Jubril Musa. The suspect was found in possession of a Makarov pistol, a fabricated Bronny pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition, including 7.62mm and 9mm rounds. Musa reportedly confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits and kidnappers within the state.
Inspector-General Egbetokun reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring safety through tactical operations, intelligence-driven policing, and community engagement. The IGP emphasized that the Force remains resolute in reducing crime rates nationwide by combating violent crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime, while upholding professionalism and the Rule of Law.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to implement a multifaceted approach to law enforcement, dedicated to minimizing criminal activities and protecting lives and property across the country.
