With the war against insurgency and banditry far from being within control as demonstrated by the success in air and ground strikes; states seem to gradually succumb to bandits’ siege.

 In Southern Kaduna, the Paramount Ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Sir Dominic Yahaya on Tuesday, September 19 bemoaned how no fewer than 50 residents including a heavily pregnant woman and children were massacred and over 254 houses razed under his domain in the space of a few days.

In a similar vein, the lawmaker representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Teejay Yusuf raised alarm on the insurmountable increasing rate of attacks. According to him, the worsening insecurity challenges in and around Kabba, especially within the last one week has left countless deaths in its trail; with an unverified number of kidnaps dastard acts of violence on individuals, buildings, institutions, farmlands and even church.

Recall that this is not the first time some locations will come under bandits’ siege within the reviewing year. Abuja, Zaria and Katsina had on January; June and August reportedly also been under the siege of banditry and insurgency. 


The blazing of trails in the above-reported areas seems to have empowered these demented individuals in expanding their tentacles to further attempt to conquer more areas.

Though some states especially in the Northern region seems to have developed a repertoire that extends from regulation of fuel supplied to motorists/cyclists; anti-grazing laws and other regulations to more offensive techniques of the total shut of the communications space within their jurisdictions, these perverted and depraved beings in human skin devise means of scaling through these hurdles effortlessly to continue with reckless impunity their acts of insurgency and banditry. 

The driving force behind the renewed zeal with which recent attacks seems to be gaining more grounds may not be unconnected with the forthcoming 2023 political distractions which may have swayed from the attention of several political stalwarts from the impending doom lurking in the corners.
