NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE RELEASE IDENTITY OF MORE INMATES WHO FLED FROM IMO PRISON
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has released the identities of more inmates who fled from the Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State.
In a statement on Friday via its official Twitter handle, the Service released pictures of scores of male and female inmates who are now on the trail of security operatives.
They, however, noted that six of the fleeing inmates voluntarily returned to the facility while 35 others refused to escape from custody during the incident.
Recall that two weeks ago, gunmen stormed the Owerri correctional centre and the Police headquarters, freeing over 1800 inmates, the largest in Nigeria’s history, and also razing over 50 vehicles.
24 hours after the incident, gunmen on Tuesday set another Police Station ablaze in Imo State, at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State, freed all the suspects in detention before setting the police facility ablaze.
This prompted the South-Easter Governors’ forum in the country to set up a security outfit called Ebube Agu to help tackle the menace of insecurity ravaging the region in recent weeks.
