OIL THEFT: NAVY HANDS OVER 22 SUSPECTS, TWO VESSELS TO EFCC

The Nigerian Navy has handed over 10 suspected oil thieves and a vessel laden with 130 metric tons of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and prosecution. 


The suspects were arrested on July 20, 2020 by the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft and extradited to the Lagos State Zonal Office of the EFCC on October 2, 2020. 


The suspects are: Umoh Samuel, Abonida Seaman, Ogidigbo Kelly, Ajemfuja Lucky, Gbatemiro Abel, Leke Christian, John Ally, Etem Anthony, Adegoke Adeoye, and Arikaibi.

The anti-graft agency also took over another vessel, MV Mother Comfort alongside 12 suspects for investigation and prosecution after they were arrested by the Nigerian Navy ship Beecroft on July 24, 2020.



The suspects are: Femi James Adeniyi, Ekene Okendu, Alum Julius, Napolion Dele, Awa Smart, Akorede Stephen, Stanley Neele, Odenike Rasaq, Agbanoma John, Aderemi Akinade, Okengwu, and Ojajuni Adebowale. 


At the time of arrest, the vessel was laden with 237 tons of AGO. 


The EFCC said the suspects along side the vessels will soon be charged to court for alleged dealing in petroleum products.
