Osun Governor Orders 24-Hour Curfew in Igbajo Following Oba Famodun’s Death

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a full lockdown and 24-hour curfew in Igbajo town, Boluwaduro Local Government Area, following a breakdown of law and order that occurred from Sunday night into Monday morning.

The curfew, announced via a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, comes after intelligence reports indicated rising tensions among residents following the death of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, the former Owa of Igbajo, who passed away in Abuja on Friday. Famodun was also a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.

Governor Adeleke emphasized that the measure was necessary to restore peace and prevent further unrest. He warned residents against engaging in any actions that could escalate the situation, stressing that individuals involved in such acts would face legal consequences.

“The administration will not condone any civil disobedience that threatens the peace currently enjoyed across Osun State,” the governor said. He also expressed his shock at the breakdown of order in Igbajo and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.

The governor directed security agencies, including the Army, Police, DSS, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to maintain continuous surveillance in the town until normalcy is restored. Residents have been urged to cooperate with security personnel during the curfew period and prioritize peace and safety.

Governor Adeleke also extended condolences to the family of the late Oba Famodun and the people of Igbajo, describing him as an esteemed son of the community.
