PANIC IN OGUN AS SUSPECTED COVID-19 BENINESE PATIENT DIES IN TRANSIT

Panic strikes Adebo Library, Kuto area of Abeokuta, following the death of a suspected COVID-19 patient that died at a point opposite one of the entrances to the Guaranty Trust Bank in the area.


The suspected patient identified as Alex was a Beninese national and resides at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.


Another travel partner, also a Beninese citizen reported being Alex’s friend clutched his corpse to himself while he cried for help in a trending video. According to the video, He claimed that Alex fell sick shortly after he returned from Cotonou, Republic of Benin.


He stated further that a force officer, who dumped him and his deceased friend beside the road, was conveying them from Sagamu to Owode Idiroko, a border town in Ogun State when his friend died in the car.


Panic swept residents of the area following the death of the suspected patients. Afraid that people could contract the disease, the people cried to the state government to help in disinfecting the area.


While addressing the development, Governor Dapo Abiodun, through his aide, Emmanuel Ojo, advised residents of Abeokuta to remain calm. Adding that, the state government is aware and would take precautionary actions.


“This is to reassure the general Ogun State public, especially residents of Abeokuta, to remain calm, as regards the trending video of a Cotonou returnee (male) opposite GTBank, around Simeon Adebo Library, Kuto.


“I have contacted the appropriate authorities, including the Hon. Commissioner for Health and they are on top of the situation.


“The returnee and the second male with him will be immediately picked up, and the tracing of all their contacts will begin as treatment is given at the closest Isolation Centre in the State.


He urged the residents of the affected area to stay indoors and not expose themselves to danger by moving close to the affected area and patients.


“Residents around the area are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid going near the suspected patients”.
