In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to all Commands and Formations for ensuring professionalism and provision of Police services that are rule-of-law compliant, the Kano State Police Command has worked diligently and professionally towards addressing the aftermath of recent events. These efforts have resulted in the arrest of 873 suspects and the recovery of a large quantity of exhibits.

The police command has arrested and prosecuted 600 suspects for various offenses, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, theft, mischief, and arson. Additionally, 150 suspects were prosecuted for violating the curfew enforced by the Kano State Government. Six suspects linked to the destruction, arson, and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are currently under investigation. Moreover, 76 suspects flying Russian flags, including a foreigner, have been transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for discreet investigation on charges of sedition. Forty-one suspects have been arrested for major crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and car theft. The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other substantial properties looted at various locations.

Despite recent protests, the Kano State Police Command has achieved significant successes through proactive policing and community engagement. The command arrested two suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers, eight suspected car thieves, two human trafficking suspects, one notorious drug dealer, and 23 suspected thugs (Yan Daba). Thirteen trafficking victims were rescued during this period. The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one Beretta pistol, 47 live ammunition, eight motor vehicles, four sacks containing Exol Tablets, two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, N9,442,000 in cash, 22 cows, 15 sheep, and four donkeys.

The Command is committed to maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and protecting citizens' rights to peaceful protest. The support and cooperation of the Kano State Government and the public have been invaluable in these efforts.

In specific cases, the police arrested Bello Rabi’u, 35, of Yakudima Estate, Fagge LGA, Kano, on August 1, 2024, at about 5:30 pm, and recovered a green Golf car, Reg No: NSR 793 ZQ. Rabi’u confessed to several armed robbery attacks at filling stations in Ungogo and neighboring areas. The case is under investigation.

On August 2, 2024, at about 2:00 pm, the police arrested Suleiman Isah, 22, and Umar Garba Muhammad, both from Abuja, and recovered a Toyota Corolla LE, red, Reg No: KUJ 140 JT, along with a Honda car key, spray teargas, and an electric shocker. The case is under investigation.

On August 3, 2024, at about 5:30 pm, the police arrested Nasiru Adam, 25, of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Kano, in possession of four bags of Exol Tablets. Adam confessed to the crime, and the case is under investigation.

On August 3, 2024, at about 4:15 pm, the police intercepted a Golf Wagon, Reg No: NSR 169 AJ, with 13 female teenagers being trafficked. The driver, Shafi’u Salisu, 25, and agent Rebecca Adebayo, 22, were arrested. The case will be transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation.

On August 4, 2024, at about 8:00 am, the police arrested Abdullah Suleiman, 45, Ashiru Muhammad aka Mekwal, 40, and Ishak Yusha’u, 32, recovering a stolen Golf III Saloon, Reg No: AGL 924 BF. They also confessed to stealing a Toyota Corolla, recovered in Gombe State. The case is under investigation.

On August 5, 2024, at about 1:00 pm, the police arrested Abdullah Isah, 22, Samaila Ibrahim, 38, and Ibrahim Gwani, 35, recovering a Honda Accord and a stolen Golf III Station Wagon. The case is under investigation.

On August 3, 2024, at about 2:00 pm, the police recovered two abandoned vehicles suspected to be stolen in Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano. The case is under investigation.

Following the arrest of Hassan Iliya on July 5, 2024, the police arrested Mamuda Sada, 40, recovering N4,456,000, two motorcycles, cows, and donkeys. The case is under investigation.

Raids conducted between August 1-10, 4, led to the arrest of 23 suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The suspects have been charged to court.

Following a series of kidnappings, the police arrested Abdulazeez Adamu, 35, and Abdullahi Alhassan, 40, who confessed to the kidnapping and murder of two victims. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

On August 1, 2024, at about 8:00 am, the police arrested Adamu Aliyu, 19, and Ibrahim Aminu, 20, in Zaria, Kaduna State, recovering a stolen Toyota Corolla. The case is ongoing.
