The Police spokesman said the suspects identified as Ugo Obi, Chinonso Jude and Chibuke Samson were arrested on 21st January following a report by one Ajibade Gbenga at Onipanu divisional headquarters that his son Samuel Ajibade was alleged to have stolen two handsets by the suspects, consequent upon which the three suspects jointly beat him to state of comma.

The PPRO also explained that on getting the report, the DPO Onipanu division CSP Bamidele Job led his detectives to the scene of the crime and where the three suspects were quickly arrested.

According to Oyeyemi, the quick response of the police saved the suspects from being lynched by angry mob who have gathered to apply jungle justice once they got wind of the victims’ death.

Meanwhile, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The CP went further to appeal to the masses to report anyone suspected of any form of crime to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation and prosecution rather than taking laws into their hands warning that the command will not tolerate any form of jungle justice on citizens.
