(VIDEO) FULANI HERDSMEN ATTACK COMMUTERS AT IDOFE ROAD, OGUN STATE

Commuters in Ogun State say they have been attacked by Fulani herdsmen, confirming reports that criminal herdsmen are lurking in Southwest forests.

One of the victims of Fulani Herdsmen attack, Mrs Morenikeji Salami was attacked and left for dead last week at Idofe Road in Ijebu northeast, Ogun State.

Recounting Mrs Salami’s ordeal, her daughter said Mrs Salami was ambushed on her way to her site at Idofe just after she turned towards the Quarry.

The Fulanis, numbering about 8, blocked her car with their cattle and shot her tires from behind. Helpless, Mrs Salami covered her face with her hands and plead for her life.

The Fulanis shot her left hand which made her lose her fingers then proceeded to shoot at her mouth. Presuming her dead, her assailants left her for dead in the pool of her own blood.

The surveyor was eventually rescued.

Yoruba stakeholders have raised an alarm that foreign criminal elements are infiltrating southwest regions of Nigeria through the forests.

In August 2020, the Aare Ona Kakanfo-in-Council said about 500 trained ISIS terrorists on power bikes were sighted lurking in the southwest forests on an abandoned Lusada route linking Sokoto to Igbo-Ora in Oyo state.

He also warned residents living in Ibaraba, Oke Ogun, Sarki, and Igbo Ora to be extra cautious.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has issued a 7-day eviction notice to Fulanis lurking in Ondo State Forest reserve blaming them for the spike in insecurity in the state.

Yoruba Activist Sunday Igboho, backed by the members of the Ibarapa community evicted Fulani Herdsmen from their land, also accusing them being responsible for the killing, kidnappings and other nefarious activities in the area.

ADVISORY: Now is the time for all members of the Yoruba community to be at alert and raise an alarm once a suspicious activity or person is spotted.

The federal government, as well as relevant stakeholders in the Southwest and Fulani community, must meet to discourse the security threat and identify the criminals in their midst to avoid a full-blown community clash.
