POLICE FOIL KIDNAP OPERATION, ARREST TWO NIGER DELTA MILITANTS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN LAGOS
Operatives of the Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Saturday arrested two Niger Delta kidnap suspects, foiling the planned abduction of one Alhaji Demola in Lagos State.
The arrest was made following credible intelligence received by the operatives on Thursday, 18th February 2021 on the planned infiltration of some Niger Delta militants into Lagos.
The suspects, Oyas Salvation (39) native of Bomadi Town in Ikeremo Local Government Area of Delta State and Okoro Ebi (25) native of Safarogbo Village, Ovia Local Government Area of Edo State were intercepted and arrested at Ojodu Berger area as they were about entering Lagos State.
They confessed to have planned Demola's kidnap for next week following an intel by one of their informants.
Two AK-47 Rifles, 5 Magazines and 125 rounds of Ammunition were recovered from the kidnappers.
The suspects confessed that they were coming to Lagos to resume their kidnapping activities after relocating back to Niger Delta almost 3years Ago.
They further disclosed that other members of their gang will arrive Lagos in the next four days, while three members are already in Lagos.
Currently, efforts are being made by security operatives to arrest other members of the gang and recover more weapons.
This is a wake-up call to security agencies in Lagos and other neighbouring States to be at alert. Highways should be safeguarded to avoid the infiltration of criminals into the State. Security operatives need to be at the top of their games to arrest the kidnappers who are already in Lagos.
On the part of the residents, they should be alert and raise an alarm once a suspicious activity or person is spotted in their areas.
