Police Nab 23 Criminals, Recover Weapons in Nationwide Christmas Crackdown
In a bid to ensure public safety during the festive season, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have apprehended 23 suspects, including armed robbers, cultists, and a kidnapper, across various states in the country. Acting on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the nationwide crackdown also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons.
On Christmas Day, around 1 a.m., police operatives attached to the Lagos State Command responded to a distress call about a group of hoodlums operating in the Safejo area of Amukoko, Lagos. Three suspects, Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18), were arrested at the scene. Weapons used in previous robbery attacks were also recovered. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who fled the scene.
Later on December 25, at about 8 p.m., operatives of the Saminaka Division in Kaduna State apprehended Sule Muhammad, 25, a suspected member of a notorious kidnapping gang. A fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered from the suspect, who confessed to his involvement in several abductions. The police are working to locate other members of the gang and recover more weapons from their hideout.
Police operations in other states, including Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, Imo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulted in the arrest of several suspects during the holiday period. These efforts reflect the force’s dedication to maintaining law and order across the country.
The IGP praised the officers for their swift actions and commitment to public safety. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The IGP also reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to creating a secure environment for all Nigerians to celebrate the festive season peacefully.
