Police Rescue 31 Kidnapped Victims in Taraba and Edo States

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against kidnapping and banditry, successfully rescuing 31 abducted persons in coordinated operations across Taraba and Edo States.

In Edo State, on Friday, July 11, at about 7:20 p.m., suspected kidnappers ambushed commuters along the Fugar–Agenebode road in Etsako East Local Government Area, killing two victims and abducting several others. Responding swiftly, police operatives—working in conjunction with local security outfits—launched a search-and-rescue operation in the Obe Hill area, near the Ajaokuta axis. A gun battle ensued, forcing the kidnappers to flee with gunshot injuries. Fourteen kidnapped victims were safely rescued.

In a similar development in Taraba State, on Saturday, July 12, at about 11:45 p.m., operatives responded to a distress call following an attack on a white Toyota bus transporting 17 passengers from Enugu to Yola. The incident occurred along the Wukari highway, shortly after Federal University Wukari. Security personnel, in collaboration with other agencies, swiftly mobilised to the scene. The suspected kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the advancing operatives. All 17 hostages were rescued unhurt.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, applauded the swift response and bravery of the officers involved in both operations. He reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to citizen safety and national security, vowing that operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks will continue with intensified momentum.
