PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP FURIOUS AS TWITTER FACT CHECKS HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME
Twitter, for the first time, fact-checked two of Donald Trump’s tweets, eliciting an angry response from the US President.
On Tuesday, May 26, Twitter highlighted two of Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that mail-in voting would lead to fraud and a “Rigged Election.” Under the tweet, the social media platform linked a curated fact check page which read “Get the facts about mail-in ballots.”
In response, Donald Trump accused Twitter of election meddling.
“Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!” he tweeted.
President Trump has over 80 million followers on Twitter, a platform he has long used to spread abuse, conspiracy theories, false information.
According to Twitter, Trump’s tweet violates its recent policy:
“In serving the public conversation, our goal is to make it easy to find credible information on Twitter and to limit the spread of potentially harmful and misleading content,” head of site integrity Yoel Roth announced when the change was made.
