A viral video from the scene showed residents fleeing in panic as violence erupted in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Opalola Yemisi, stated that the injured officers had been deployed to maintain peace when they were ambushed by armed thugs.
“Seven police officers were injured in the process. They had gone to maintain peace in the area when they were ambushed by thugs,” she said.
She further disclosed that the injured officers had received medical treatment and that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack.
