SOKOTO RECORDS 8 COVID-19 CASES IN ONE DAY

Eight new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Sokoto state.

The state has also commenced testing the contacts of the second index case in the state to determine their status.

The state's commissioner for health, Dr. Muhammed Ali Inname today told journalists that the new eight positive cases were traced to the first index case.

Dr. Inname, who also doubles as the state's chairman of the task force on COVID-19, told reporters that 28 out of the 32 persons who had contacts with the index case were tested.

"Out of the 28 contacts that were tested, only eight of them tested positive while others were returned negative; and that was the eight cases we recorded yesterday."

"The good news is that all the health workers who came in contact with the first index case were all tested, and their results were all negative.

"It is good news to the health workers, and I urge them to always maintain high standards in discharging their duties. They should not only put their focus on COVID-19 but also other diseases which may cause problems as well."

The commissioner appealed to residents of the state not to panic, saying the state task force will trace all the contacts of any positive case as was done in the first index case.

"The second index case contact has also been traced, and we already have 38 contacts to be tested," he added.

He further revealed that the first two cases are responding to treatment, and their samples will soon be tested again to re-affirm their coronavirus status.

He urged residents of the state to always abide by the regulations of the government by making use of their face masks, staying at home, and other necessary measures.

He commended the people of the state, the Sultanate Council, and the government for their support in the curtailment of the spread of the virus in the state.
