Suspected Herders Invade LAUTECH Hostels, Rob Students, and Allegedly Kill Two
Armed men, suspected to be herders, have been accused of breaking into private hostels near Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, where they allegedly stole valuables and killed two individuals.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred last Monday in communities around the Stadium Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The assailants allegedly burgled several hostels, stealing students’ belongings, including expensive phones and gadgets.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers wielded guns and machetes and used force against students who resisted.
One of the affected students, speaking to SaharaReporters, described the terrifying attack:
"Right now, I don't feel safe at all. Around 2 AM last Monday, these armed Fulani men invaded the Under G area and robbed students. They attacked several hostels, including a hotel beside us. They took valuables from guests staying in the hotel and looted three different buildings inside a hostel."
She further explained:
"They focused on the first and second buildings, stealing phones and other possessions. They even forced students to reveal their phone passwords. Those who resisted were beaten, and some were severely injured. I heard that at least two people lost their lives that night."
Another student confirmed the attack but noted that his hostel was spared from extreme violence:
"These armed herdsmen came to a hostel near the Stadium area. Luckily, I wasn’t there at the time. They looted our hostel but didn’t harm anyone. However, we later heard that they attacked Under G area and killed someone."
Following the attack, students and residents took to social media to express their frustration and fear, calling on authorities to take urgent action.

"This situation is getting worse every day. Our campus is turning into a hub for criminal activity. We urgently need tighter security in school areas. From the DPO of Police in Ogbomoso North to security agencies, please help us secure our school. We can’t sleep anymore."
The rising insecurity in LAUTECH and surrounding areas has sparked fear among students, who are now demanding immediate intervention from security agencies to protect their lives and properties.
