TROOPS KILL 8 BANDIT LEADERS, SEVERAL FIGHTERS IN ZAMFARA

Troops of Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI have killed eight bandit leaders and several fighters in Zamfara State.

Major General John Enenche, Coordinator Defence Media Operations Defence Headquarters, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, July 10, 2020.

Enenche said the air strikes was executed on July 9, by the troops in the Zamfara State section of the Kagara Forest.

The strike was launched following Human Intelligence reports indicating that some armed bandits had relocated with a large number of rustled livestock from the Sokoto State side of the Forest, and set up camp in the Zamfara State portion of the Forest, the Major General revealed.

Enenche said that a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions later revealed the exact location of the camp.

The Air Component dispatched the Nigerian Air Force fighter jets and helicopter gunships to engage the location, he added.

"As the attack aircraft approached the hideout, some of the bandits and their leaders were seen fleeing towards the surrounding bushes."

Consequently, the attack aircraft struck the area which led to the killing of the bandits.

This is coming barely 24 hours after bandits struck Danfasa village of the State, killing seven persons and kidnapping 20 women, Eons Intelligence reports.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commended the troops for their professionalism towards the fight against banditry.

He also urged them to remain resolute in the conduct of air strikes, whilst continuing to provide close air support for ongoing ground operations in order to eradicate all armed bandits, and restore normalcy in the North-West and North-Central Zones of the Country.
