Troops Neutralise Bandits in Babana, Recover Weapons

Troops of 22 Armoured Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babana, Borgu LGA of Niger State, foiled a bandit attack in the early hours of Thursday, 28 August 2025, neutralising two suspects and recovering arms and ammunition.

The encounter occurred around 2:50 a.m., when the troops engaged armed bandits attempting to infiltrate the Babana axis. The soldiers’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat, after which an exploitation mission led to the elimination of two bandits on the outskirts of Babana town.

Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, four loaded AK-47 magazines, 323 rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, and a mobile phone.

Two personnel — an officer and a soldier — sustained leg injuries but are reportedly responding to treatment.

Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the troops’ vigilance and resilience, vowing to sustain operations until banditry is stamped out and citizens are fully protected.
