
Troops Neutralise Insurgents, Recover Arms in Kainji Lake National Park
Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, operating under Operation Park Strike V, have neutralised several insurgents and recovered weapons and motorcycles during a successful ambush operation in Kainji Lake National Park (KLNP).
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops, in collaboration with Park Rangers, staged an ambush at an identified insurgents’ crossing point in Tungan Talle, Zugurma Section of the park, at about 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, 25 September 2025. The operation, aimed at disrupting hostile movements, resulted in a heavy firefight in which an unconfirmed number of insurgents were neutralised while others fled with injuries.
The troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and four motorcycles from the scene. However, one Park Ranger sustained a gunshot wound but has since been stabilised.
Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, who has relocated to the Step-Up Headquarters at Wawa Cantonment to coordinate ongoing operations, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism. He urged them to sustain the momentum and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements in its area of responsibility while safeguarding law-abiding citizens.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its dedication to defending the nation against all threats and pledged continued collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and security within the region.
