Troops Repel Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack on Naval Base in Lake Chad, Neutralize Scores of Terrorists
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an early morning infiltration attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the Naval Base at Lake Chad Fish Dam, neutralizing scores of insurgents in a coordinated joint operation involving land, maritime, and air assets.
The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., was reportedly aimed at destroying newly acquired swamp bogeys deployed by the Borno State Government for waterways clearance in the Lake Chad region. However, the terrorists met stiff resistance from naval personnel stationed at the base, with reinforcement swiftly mobilized from Baga.
A fierce firefight ensued and lasted for over two hours, forcing the insurgents to retreat after suffering heavy casualties. The troops successfully safeguarded the swamp bogeys, while several improvised explosive device (IED) materials were recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
Although the attackers failed to breach the base, a limited incursion resulted in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. A number of personnel sustained injuries during the engagement.
Air platforms under Operation Hadin Kai are currently conducting follow-up pursuit and exploitation operations along the waterways to further eliminate remaining terrorist elements.
The successful defense underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to secure critical infrastructure in the Lake Chad region and deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and influence.
