Two Notorious Bandit Leaders Surrender Arms, Release 15 Kidnapped Victims in Katsina
Two notorious bandit leaders, Abu Radde and Umar Black, have surrendered their weapons and released 15 kidnapped victims in Katsina State. The development occurred in Batsari Local Government Area and marks a significant step in efforts to combat banditry in the region.
The surrender is attributed to the intensified military operations led by the combined forces of Operation FANSAN YANMA and other security agencies in the area.
According to security sources, the surrender ceremony took place on Sunday and was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the military, as well as traditional and religious leaders.
During the ceremony, the bandit leaders handed over four AK-47 rifles and released 15 captives, including three men, eight women, and four children. The freed victims are now in the care of local government authorities, where they will receive rehabilitation and aftercare services.
A security official described the surrender as a critical milestone in the ongoing fight against banditry and criminality in Katsina State.
"This is a crucial step toward the complete disarmament of bandits and the eventual release of all kidnapped victims in the region," the official stated.
The surrendered weapons have been placed in the custody of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade in Katsina. This measure is to ensure the arms will no longer be used for criminal activities or violence in the area.
The incident underscores the effectiveness of recent security measures and highlights the potential for dialogue and military pressure to bring an end to banditry in the state.
