The US President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that he has been taking hydroxychloroquine for about a week and a half to protect against the Coronavirus.

President Donald Trump had been touting hydroxychloroquine has a potential cure for COVID-19 despite the Food and Drug Administration’s warning that it could cause irregular heartbeats and other cardiac trauma.

“I happen to be taking it. I happen to be taking it. I’m taking it, hydroxychloroquine. Right now, yeah. A couple weeks ago I started taking it. Because I think it’s good, I heard a lot of good stories … I take a pill every day.”

The US president had earlier promoted the injection of disinfectants or light into the body to fight COVID-19 which led to a spike in calls to poison control centres according to NPR.
