COVID-19: TRUMP’S DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL DRAWS MIXED REACTIONS

The discharge of President Donald Trump from the Walter Reed Medical Centre where he was being treated for COVID-19 has alarmed health experts and caused mixed feelings among others.

Trump on Friday, October 2, announced that he and his wife, Melania Trump had tested positive for COVID-19 and said they would begin quarantine and recovery process immediately.

Subsequently, the President was admitted to the Walter Reed Medical Centre for medical attention.

President Trump on Monday, October 5 tweeted that he would return to the White House and urged people not to be afraid of the virus as his administration had developed some drugs to combat the infection.

“I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!,” he tweeted.

Trump left the hospital on Monday around 6:30 pm after the medical team treating him for COVID-19 cautioned that he is “not out of the woods yet.”

Few minutes after getting to the White House, Trump posted a video on Twitter, saying: “I just left Water Reed Medical Centre, and it is really something very special. I have learnt so much about coronavirus, and one thing that is certain, don’t let it dominate you, you are going to beat it.”

The development has caused many to panic as several infectious disease experts said the President should have stayed longer in the medical centre for adequate health response to avoid others from contracting the virus.

Earlier on Monday, health experts said that Trump’s condition remained unclear and warned that his case may be severe.

It was gathered that the Republican President is being treated with a steroid, dexamethasone that is normally used only for severe cases.

Dr Sean Conley, the White House Physician, had on Sunday acknowledged that Trump’s condition had worsened than previously admitted.

Before his discharged, Trump on Sunday embarked on a surprise trip to wave his supporters, with two other persons in the vehicle’s front seat with him.

Mixed reactions have trailed the President trip as many said he is endangering the lives of others especially those in the vehicle with him during the trip.

While reacting to the discharged of the President, many Twitter users condemned the unexpected development.

@JRubinBlogger said: “you are a menace to everyone around you.”

@everywhereist faulted the discharge saying, “Unless you are willing to guarantee every single person in America the same level of healthcare you just received, for free, shut the fuck up.

“You literally got drugs that had only been tested on three hundred people. You received experimental treatments that are not available to the public and you have the fucking audacity to say this?"

Another user accused President Trump of not contracting COVID-19 but using it to stage a political theatre.

@mmpadellan tweeted: “You are a damn liar. YOU NEVER HAD COVID-19.

And a publicity stunt like this, and your disregard for its severity, is disrespectful to the 209,000 Americans who DIED alone without their families.

YOU ARE THE WORST.”

Amongst critics, several others commended the President for the bold step and prayed for quicker recovery.

@JennaEllisEsq tweeted, “President Donald Trump is a leader. America must face this and all challenges with courage and resolve, not fear. We’re proud to be AMERICANS!”

@Final_Rule tweeted “I want a leader who faces the problem, comes up with a solution and resolve it. Not one who creates fear. I want to live in a country of hope and aspiration. Thank you, Donald Trump.”

Aside from the President and his wife, other persons associated with the White House have also been infected with the virus.

They are: Kayleigh McEnany, White House Press Secretary, Hope Hicks, senior advisor to the president, Bill Stephen, Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, Former counsellor to the president, Ronna MC Daniel, R-National Committee Chair, Nick Luna, President’s personal aide.

Others are: Sen. Mike Lee, Sen Thom Tillis, Sen Ron Johnson, Chris Christie, and Rev. John Jenkins.
