Enugu Police Arrest Suspects Over Kidnap and Murder of 5-Year-Old Boy

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a five-year-old boy in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

Police identified the prime suspect as 18-year-old Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, who allegedly conspired with 24-year-old Sunday Michael, a security guard from Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State. The arrests were made on August 11 and 12, 2025, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad following intelligence reports.

The child was declared missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that Wisdom, a second cousin of the victim, demanded N1 million ransom through his accomplice to conceal his identity. When the ransom was not paid, the boy was killed and buried in a bush near their home in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police said the prime suspect later led operatives to the site, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, who confirmed the child’s death.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, extended his condolences to the grieving family and assured that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations. He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and delivering justice.
