Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers Over Threat Call in Ikoyi-Ile

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in Ikoyi-Ile following a threat report received by the Command, in what it described as a proactive, intelligence-driven policing effort.

According to a press release issued by the Command, the incident was reported on Friday, January 9, 2026, by a resident of Ikoyi-Ile, identified as Islamiat Omowumi. She reportedly received a threatening phone call from a private number, during which the caller threatened to kidnap her, demanded human parts, and claimed she was being targeted because she is a meat seller. The caller also allegedly demanded a ransom of N10 million, with threats of severe consequences if the demand was not met.

Acting swiftly on the report, police detectives deployed intelligence-led investigative measures, which led to the arrest of three suspects. The suspects were identified as Nurudeen Fathia (17), Fatai Taiwo (17), and Munirat Saliu (16), all females.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to making the threat call, claiming it was intended as a prank. A small Itel mobile phone allegedly used to carry out the act was recovered from them, further aiding the investigation.

The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to fully determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish appropriate legal actions in line with the law.

The Oyo State Police Command warned members of the public, especially youths, against engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or threats to life, stressing that such actions constitute serious criminal offences with legal consequences.

The Command also reassured residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the state’s emergency contact lines.
